The Urine R/ M test is used to find the cause of - or monitor – urinary tract infections, bleeding in the urinary system, kidney or liver disease. It can also be used for diabetes, some diseases of the blood, and bladder stones.

Urine Routine and Microscopy Examination involves a three part evaluation of the urine sample.

Physical Examination - It involves examination of the color and appearance of the urine sample.

Chemical Examination - It is done to examine the urine sample for glucose, protein, pH, specific gravity, blood, nitrites, ketones, leukocyte esterase, bilirubin, and urobilinogen.

Microscopic Examination - It involves the examination of the urine sample under the microscope for casts, crystals, cells, bacteria, and yeast. 

This test is also done as a part of a routine health check-up, a work-up for planned surgery, or a routine test in pregnancy to detect the presence of infection or other diseases.
