What Documents do I need to get Tested for COVID-19?

As per the government regulations, certain documents are required to be submitted at the time of testing for government records.
1. Photo ID (Aadhaar card/ Voter Id/ Passport) - Proof of current address and contact number of the suspect patient to be provided at the time of sample collection.
2. Duly filled ICMR Patient proforma/ TRF (Test Requisition Form). Download the Form
These are requirements defined by Govt. of India without which testing of COVID-19 or 2019-novel Coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) is not allowed.


When Should I Get Tested for COVID-19 (Coronavirus) ?

As per the Official Testing Guidelines laid out by ICMR, you should consider getting tested for COVID-19 in any of the following cases:

  • - If you have any Signs/ Symptoms similar to COVID-19, such as High Fever, Dry Cough or Respiratory sickness, or Loss of Taste and/ or Smell.
  • - You have recently been in Contact with (or in the Close Vicinity of) a confirmed or suspected case of COVID-19.
  • - You are a Healthcare worker who may have been exposed to a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19.

What Types of COVID-19 Tests are Available?
RT-PCR Test
As per ICMR guidelines, RT-PCR (Real Time Reverse TranscriptionPolymerase Chain Reaction) based test is the recommended testing method followed for COVID-19 Testing.
A Nasal (Nasopharyngeal) and Throat (Oropharyngeal) Swab is collected for testing by taking due safety measures.
Antibody Test
Coronavirus (COVID-19) Antibody Test is also available in India, which enables testing using blood samples. This test is only used for serosurveillance purposes, for the detection of the extent of spread and whether the person has contracted COVID-19 in the past. It should not be undertaken by people currently suffering from COVID-19 or having any symptoms.
